Encinitas Car night on Beach route 101

September 22, 2014

Last Thursday night was one of the Encinitas Car Nights along 101. The feature of the night was the Vintage Woodies. But as the photos show, there were Chryslers, Chevys, Woodies, Fords, VWs and even a drone. Perfect night for a car event!

Vintage VW Patina

June 1, 2014

Love this “patina” to the paint on this vintage Volkswagen. I was editing my car photo archives today and came across this image from last year’s VW Classic in Irvine, CA. This year’s Classic is coming up in a few weeks at a new location in Orange County. I will be driving my 62 Ragtop up for the event. This is VW lovers Disneyland!

Photographing in Napa Valley

May 8, 2014

Last week I was shooting for a winery in Napa Valley. Photographing bottles, food, tasting room and the vineyards. We show up at dawn and hope to be blessed with perfect light and skies for the vineyard shots. This day cooperated well. This image of the photo van in the vineyard was later in the morning as we were wrapping up to head to the tasting room.

Bugorama Fontana 2014

May 5, 2014

I spent the day photographing VW drag racing at Auto Club Speedway. It is called the Bugorama. This is one of the days that make me grin. Completely immersed in two of my favorite things to do, photograph and be around fast old Volkswagens. I know to those that haven’t seen VWs race it seems like a contradiction in terms, “fast” and “old Volkswagen” but they are fast, on the edge and exciting to watch in the quarter-mile. This shot is in the staging lanes, next step, the burnout!

What’s going on here?

April 30, 2014

Part of my Hwy 5 series. What is going on here? Well, a photo shoot! This is my photography cargo van but in this scene it just looks a little suspicious. My van travels to locations all over and carries everything I need to shoot on location. A rolling studio and it can be used as a large white reflector as well! Photo nerd info: Nikon D800, 50mm set @ f 1.4, 2000th sec iso 64 shot a 6:30 pm in overcast light.

Beautiful garage

April 24, 2014

I did a photo shoot for an ad campaign of real people. We were going to do an image of this guy at his home. Ok, sounds good. When he opened his garage and I saw the cars, the signs, the tools, the toys, I was stoked, ready to shoot and in my favorite kind of space. You know where we shot the portrait! Thanks to John for sharing your garage and great collection of vintage cars.

Caddy Cruiser, American Made

April 11, 2014

1959 Cadillac with its long beautiful lines and huge fins. These cars look like they have been customized even when they are stock. I love the choice of color by the owner, any other car and this just wouldn’t work. Shot at Goodguys Del Mar Nationals, April 4, 2014.

Autocross in the pits

April 7, 2014

Here is a shot from the Goodguys Meguir’s 14th Del Mar Nationals car show. This shot was taken between autocross races in the pits. This Vintage Camaro was being tweaked for the next session. I am glad they have added autocross to the event because it is a great way to see these vintage cars in action instead of just sitting pretty. Photo nerd info: Nikon D800 with Nikon manual 24mm perspective shift lens.
