Love this “patina” to the paint on this vintage Volkswagen. I was editing my car photo archives today and came across this image from last year’s VW Classic in Irvine, CA. This year’s Classic is coming up in a few weeks at a new location in Orange County. I will be driving my 62 Ragtop up for the event. This is VW lovers Disneyland!
I spent the day photographing VW drag racing at Auto Club Speedway. It is called the Bugorama. This is one of the days that make me grin. Completely immersed in two of my favorite things to do, photograph and be around fast old Volkswagens. I know to those that haven’t seen VWs race it seems like a contradiction in terms, “fast” and “old Volkswagen” but they are fast, on the edge and exciting to watch in the quarter-mile. This shot is in the staging lanes, next step, the burnout!
Beautiful oval window Beetle shot at the Treffen show 2013. This car was sitting by itself away from the rest of the cars in the show. Photo Nerd info: Nikon D800 w 50mm shot at f/1.6 @ 2000 sec
This shot was done a few years ago at Airkewld in Surprise, AZ. It is a very detailed double cab that could be driven everyday. Dig this truck. Mark of Lunde VW brought it by for the photo shoot. Thanks Mark! Thanks Pete!
Thursday Encinitas 101 Car Night, August 15, 2013. Tons of VW buses and yes, The Michelin Man dancing to groovy rock n roll. Photo nerd info: Nikon D800 with 50mm, 2000th Sec @ f 1.4, iso 50.
Later in the day at the VW Classic in Irvine, California.
This shot is from today’s Bob Baker Volkswagen Show in Carlsbad, California. This car is a 1961 but has parts from years as far back as an early 50’s split window grafted in. Owner said he has had the car since the 1970’s. Photo nerd info: Nikon D800, 80-200 Nikon Lens at 80mm, F3.2 @ 500 second, iso 50.
Took a little cruise out today to do my errands. Had a camera, a wall, my 62 bug and some sun. This is with the new front end modifications. There are a few more details needing attention. Note the center caps on front wheels missing. The new 4.5″ BRM wheels have a slightly smaller hole for the center cap so my custom billet ones don’t fit. Those are being custom-made this week. Front end is now running Airkewld front BAD disc brakes, stainless braided lines, 3″ narrowed beam, 4.5″ BRM style wheels and new ContiEcoContact 145/65/15 tires (Smart Car tires). Happy driving!
Enough wine photography posts, time for some VW love! This is an outtake from my photo shoot at West Coast Classic VW Restorations for an article on 1967 VW Beetle – Restoring A Vintage Volkswagen Bug
