New VW to the family

This is the new VW added to our family. It’s not air cooled but it is a Volkswagen. It is a VW Jetta SportWagen TDI. The Turbo Diesel engine means 40+ miles to the gallon on the Hwy.  Took it for a 250 mile test run up to the local mountains yesterday. Some mountain roads, filled with people, skis and gear we averaged 46 mpg. Lovin’ that!  This shot of the car was taken last week when the car had under 50 miles on it.

  1. Rear engine Vintage Volkswagens run an air cooled engine. No Water / antifreeze in the engine. So my air cooled VW doesn’t have air conditioning but my water cooled VW does have air conditioning. I am never sure when you are kidding me, being the funny man you are!

  2. Cool car Timm, after 12yrs ownership of a ’75 bay we bought a VW 2.5 TDI T4 ….Eurovan? you call them? Great engine!

    • Yes, we do call them Eurovans here. The TDI still hasn’t really caught on here in the US but it will when Fuel gets to $8.00 a gallon. A large amount of people still think smokey, stinky diesel. I am digging this car so far! Performance with great mileage unlike that hybrid that starts with a “P”. Boris, Thanks for chiming in!

    • Thanks! I took it on a 1000 mile trip last week in foul weather. Great test. It passed with flying colors! Yes, the Toffee Brown is pretty cool. Haven’t seen another on the road this color yet. Thanks for your comments! Just followed you on Twitter.
